Ayr United 16s v St Johnstone 16s

Ayr took on St Johnstone and the first 15 mins was played at a very hectic pace. Both teams played high tiempo football and the game was very entertaining.

Once the pace of the game slowed, Ayr created the best chances with Ross Wyllie & Neil Slooves going close , before Mark Shankland and Adam Fraser brought out good saves from the Saints keeper.

As the 1st half grew to a close Ayr scored a fine goal. After a switch of play, Chris Kelly attacked the Saints defence at pace , beating 2 players before placing the ball into the far corner for a well taken goal.

The 2nd half saw St Johnstone create the best chances , however from open play the Ayr defenders did very well to limit there attempts and shots at goal.
However from set pieces Ayr defended very poorly and St Johnstone attackers scored 2 quickfire goals from corners kicks.

Towards the end Ayr fought back into the game with McCubbin and Robertson again testing the keeper, but Ayr could not add to their tally as the game finished.

Coach Davie White added “ In terms of attacking play we did very well today, our possession play and the way we created chances was of high quality. However the players defended set pieces very poorly and a lack of communication is an area we require improvement on. That being said we are confident the players will work on improving this over the coming weeks."
