17's were in action at Prestwick Academy against unknown quantity Berwick Rangers who only received clearance recently to play in this league and are some 5 or 6 matches behind so prior to this match, it was difficult for the Ayr backroom staff to know what type of side Berwick were.
But thanks to the 17s excellent team this year, the coaches had nothing to worry about as the players carried on their good work to win another hard fought match.
Scott Aitken, Tyler Campbell and Deci Milligan all had early chances with some fantastic play coming from captain Steven Hutchison. They could have been 3 or 4 goals up by the time they scored their first of the game in 21 minutes when Milligan was pushed in the box with the home side winning a penalty which Milligan himself put away via the post, giving his side a deserved lead.
Aitken had a few chances to score shortly afterwards but was unfortunate not to add to Milligan's earlier goal. Cammy Barr also tried his luck from right in front of goal but under pressure, shot wide.
10 minutes before half time, Dale McCormack made a superb cross from the left that was met in the air by Aitken who headed on target but the visiting keeper saved from his point blank range attempt on target but from the resulting save came a rebound that Aitken fired into the goal without dispute this time to take the score to 2 nil for the Ayr team.
Ayr had some excellent spells in the first half that coach Davie Adams was quick to point out to his players during his team talk in the break. The coaching team also made it clear to the players they had to keep their concentration and discipline in order to maintain their lead in this match.
It didn't take long in the second 45 for the Ayr side to make their strengths known as Aitken crossed for Campbell who knocked just past before Dale McCormack lobbed a cross over the defensive back line before hitting the last man defender which nearly landed in the goal but out for a corner.
Aitken was next up again with an attempt but after turning his opponents defenders inside out, his shot, unfortunately drifted past the post.
Mistake and goal of the match came 15 minutes into the second when a back pass to the Berwick keeper was badly sliced by the stopper some 25 yards out near the throw in line and the pressure placed by Ayr striker Milligan paid dividends as he picked up the loose ball and coolly passed home the loose ball, giving the Ayr team an unassailable 3 nil lead.
Ayr should have extended their lead a few minutes later when a pinpoint corner from captain Hutchison was met expertly in the air by Aitken that was only kept out the net by a peter the cat like save from the visitors keeper.
On the half hour mark, Lee Lockhart made his entrance and immediately tried his luck with a trademark 35 yard attempt, only being thwarted by the crossbar. A few minutes later Lockhart, nicknamed Hammer, pinged a 35 yard cross field pass perfectly to Campbell who knocked it down for Milligan but he was unlucky as his shot was saved by an alert Berwick keeper to keep the scoreline to just the three.
The coaches were understandably pleased with the result saying "We really should have won by more with the amount of chances we created but when we create them, we will always score at least a few and if we keep playing like that, we will remain hard to beat. Unbeaten in the league and yet another clean sheet, we have to be happy with that. No complaints here!"

Ayr 19s 7 v 0 East Fife 19s
Ayr hosted East Fife at Troon Juniors ground, Portland Park on Sunday afternoon and for anyone that travelled to watch, it was an afternoon to savour for the home sides players and coaching staff.
Ayr started the game on top, creating a few opportunities in the opening skirmishes with most coming from Roddy Paterson whose pace was getting him in behind the East Fife defence with him having three one on ones with the keeper but failed to score on any of these occasions.
The opening came on 20 minutes when Paterson scored from close range with further first half goals being added by Aaron Connolly and Stuart Milligan.
The second half was a somewhat of a procession with an additional four goals being added from Milligan who added his second and Connolly who secured himself a second half hat trick to take his tally for the game to four.
Ayr's Coach Tom Robertson commented afterwards "This was a good all round performance from the lads, pleasing to get a few goals and also pleased with the clean sheet. This result can only breed confidence throughout the team and we played some good stuff, totally dominating and creating lots of chances, and scoring some good goals."
15s v arbroath
14s v arbroath
Gayfield Stadium Arbroath was the illustrious setting for the AUFA 14s side on their away day.
The Ayr United players were treated to playing at Arbroath's Gayfield stadium on their away trip north today, after the original venue for this match, was called off at the last minute.
The first ten minutes proved very even, however after 15 minutes Ayr had gained control of their passing game, with one passing move ending with a very good save from the home goalkeeper at point blank range from Roy Barr.
The same player scored his first of the game after 20 minutes, again after a very good passing move involving the Lee Williamson, the trialist, Declan Adam and Donnie Campbell, who pass, which was inch perfect found Roy Barr to finish off in some style.
Three minutes later it was Sean McKenzie who found the net after some great individual skill, strength and movement. The Ayr striker used good body strength to hold off and beat three players before placing a well placed shot into the bottom corner from 16 yards out.
The second period started with a first class save from Sean Robinson when a cross from the home teams left was met by a powerful header from the Abroath forward. This header was on target and a certain goal until Sean, at full stretch, tipped the ball around his left hand post. This justifiably gained applause from nearly everyone in the stadium. Ayr
Sean McKenzie was in top form today and was causing all sorts of problems for the home team and was very unfortunate not to add to his tally on two occasions within a ten minute period, when two fine strikes came back off firstly the bar and then the post.
The work rate and speed of Roy Barr during the whole game, allowed him on this occasion to be on the end of some very good inter passing between Blair Swift and Aiden Connor, to side foot the ball into the net from 6 yards out, for his well deserved second of the game.
The 3rd period was full of miss placed rushed passes and possession being given away far too cheaply by Ayr. This also created some miss-timed tackles to occur on the away team; however the discipline of all the Ayr players delighted the coaches.
The home teams number one, during this period, had two fine stops, one from Reece Lapham and then another directly after from Roy Barr. Both of these were at point blank range.
The end of the third period produced the move of the game. A first time pass from Lewis Neilson allowed Declan Adam time to play a perfect slid rule pass, which split the home defence to find Jordan Bruce on the right wing. A good first touch and delivery was needed and that’s what was provided along with a pin point cross for Aiden Connor to head past the home goalkeeper, into the net from 7 yards out.
The game then began to be a stop start affair due to, too many fouls being committed and the flow of good football being stopped all too often for Ayr’s liking.
Coach Gary Gibson praised his team for their discipline, hard work and well taken goals, after a very tough game. Also another clean sheet for Ayr's Lewis McMurdo and Sean Robinson was highlighted. In terms of development, soft indecisive passing, poor body shapes to receive a pass and decent first touches were areas identified for improvement during this game.
It's tough being a 14's player these days. Even when they play as well as they do, their coach wants more. Tough at the top boys!

15s v arbroath
Ayr 15s returned to action after a 3 week lay-off and turned in a strong team performance against a decent Arbroath side.
The first period was played at a hectic pace with both teams closing down the opposition quickly, as a result there was a lot of effort but not much quality during a frantic first 30 minutes. Arbroath came close from a corner while Ayr's best chance fell to Mick Ahern who volleyed over. The back four of Keegan, Howie, Vance and Campbell where looking solid and gave nothing away.
The second period saw a reshape of the team with Ayr changing formation to try and create some space. The move worked and Ayr took control of the second period. The Arbroath goalkeeper was by far the busiest as Ayr camped in Arbroath's half. Ayr came close through McCarrison, Wardrope and Forrest before, as always happens, Arbroath broke up the pitch with a sweeping move and scored with their first attack of the period. Their big centre half broke from the back and finished well with a strong header.
Ayr reacted well to the setback and immediately put Arbroath back under pressure. McCarrison should have had a penalty after a dart into the box as Ayr looked for the equaliser. Anderson, Wardrope and Ahern also had chances to equalise before the goal eventually arrived. Steven McCarrison volleyed home from close range to finally get the goal his play deserved.
Ayr continued to dominate and the second goal came soon after when the impressive Ahern cut inside from the left wing and rifled home a 25 yarder which flew into the top corner.
The third period was a more even affair as Arbroath fought for the equaliser.
The game stretched with chances at both ends. Andy Willock on his return from injury was doing a great job anchoring the midfield and broke down numerous attacks before they got started. James Hart looked solid in goal in his first game for six weeks while Sean Vance was dominant at the back. Jason Filippi was unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet as he ran the Arbroath defence ragged in the third period. Wardrope, Ahern, Ewart, Campbell and Forrest all had further chances to score as Ayr saw out the remainder of the game comfortably.
Coach Neil Duffy as always was full of praise for his unbeaten side, saying "This was a solid team performance, rusty at times after a long lay-off, but the effort and attitude of the players was first class. This team now has a fantastic spirit about them and a terrific never say die attitude."

The 17's returned to winning ways and maintained their unbeaten start to the season after a long journey away to Elgin with a 5-0 victory.
Despite the long journey and difficult conditions they started well as within two minutes a Declan Campbell effort beat the keeper only to be cleared off the line by an alert Elgin defender.
The Ayr players kept the pressure on and only three minutes later Steven Hutchinson delivered a corner which Elgin couldn't clear but Milligan controlled well to side step the defender and scored with his left foot to give the Ayr side the lead.
On 10 minutes, Hutchinson curled in a great corner that needed to be cleared off the line but only a few minutes later Milligan done well to dispossess an Elgin defender and slid a great ball to Scott Aitken who finished well to make it 2-0.
In the 18th minute Hutchinson, who was outstanding, played in a great ball to Aitken, whose pace beat the defence before squaring the ball to Milligan who fired in for his second of the day to make it 3-0 at half time.
In the 52nd minute Dale McCormack's persistence to win a lost cause ball down the left proved worthwhile as he played a perfectly weighted pass into Milligan who scored his third of the day.
Five minutes later a good one-two between Milligan and Cammy Marlow resulted in midfielder Marlow bulleting a great 20 yard shot high into the net to make it 5 nil.
Chances were coming thick and fast for the visiting side and on 65 minutes Hutchinson had another great 40 yard run down the right playing Tommy March out on the right who in turn crossed in for Hutchinson who had continued his run to header just wide of the target and miss out on the goal his performance deserved.
The scoring however was completed in 72 minutes when another Hutchinson corner was headed by March but his effort was saved by the keeper only for skipper JJ Hawkshaw to follow up for his goal for a 6 nil scoreline. JJ followed up his goal with an energetic celebration that is undoubtedly a candidate for the celebration of the season!!
Stuart Galloway, goalkeeping coach, said afterwards "A lot of credit has to be given to the boys for their application and attitude after such a long journey, we also had about 4 cleared off the line hit the woodwork on some 3 occasions and their keeper had two or three decent stops."

Holiday Programme a Roaring Success
by Marc Roseblade
The roars of delight could be heard all over Ayr as the young players who got themselves involved with Ayr United Football Academy annual October Holiday Programme kicked off in earnest during the school holidays and it wasn't just the parents delight that could be heard!
For three days all the kids really enjoyed the different drills and fun games they received from the AUFA community coaches at Pro Soccer complex in Ayr.
Craig Richmond, Football Development Administrator for AUFC and AUFA said, "There were a lot of talented youths showing off their skills during the three days."
"We also had the girls side from the academy here who were involved and they looked to have had a great time working with myself with them working on different drills and lots of game related practices as it was part of their training camp as well as a holiday camp."
Kids from the age of 3 were involved over the three day camp and looks to be more popular than ever as the Academy goes from strength to strength.
The Academy also has its Term Time Programme which runs from October to December taking place, spaces are still available, see the Community page for information.

AYR UNITED WIN THE SCOTTISH CUP!!!!!!!!
Well, nice sentiment but not exactly the truth in the truest form.
Ayr United Football Academy did win the Scottish Cup, sadly though, only for a day.
The SFA recently ran a contest for someone to win the Scottish Cup for a day which one of the Academy volunteers entered and duly won, the rest of course is history as the Cup winged its way down the M77 for a photo shoot with the AUFA players on Thursday night at Belmont Academy.
Most players from the Academy got themselves involved in getting themselves up close and personal with the cup, after all its not every day you get yourself next to the oldest footballing trophy on the planet, and with much excitement surrounding the romance of this famous old trophy, everyone wanted to touch it and look for winning teams etched on its silvery stature.
The girls 11s and 13s sides were involved first and the players must have felt like it was a red carpet event as hoards of photo hungry parents filled the room to get shots of their daughters with the trophy. In some aspects, the parents appeared more overawed by the cup than the players did, maybe its an age thing but it did hold peoples attention for quite a while.
The 14s also turned up for their shoot, kitted out in their AUFA refinery for a mock 'We are the Champions of Scotland' shot, hopefully with this memory, they can forge on and one day become the real champs of Scotland, holding the cup aloft at a packed Hampden park in front of 53,000 adoring fans.
The 15s, fresh from training, also took the opportunity to sit aside the cup and the moment wasn't lost on them as the silvery glow from the shiny trophy disappeared amongst a group of boys swarming round it like bees round honey all trying to find who won the cup the year they were born.
The 16s who had a match that night also took part, posing like professionals in the aftermath of a glorious Scottish Cup victory, fixing their hair before the cameras started clicking away to capture a superb moment on celluloid that will forever live in their memories.
It was a night not to forget and with the images now stored in the photobanks of many computers worldwide, the night will always be remembered as the day that Ayr United players won and lifted the Scottish Cup.
Official AUFA products are available on their photobox site with prints, fridge magnets, posters, t shirts, mousemats and many more items with photos from the night costing from only 50p.
Thanks go out to the SFA for allowing us this opportunity. Thanks also to (in no particular order) Ayr Advertiser, Ayrshire Post and Graeme Pollock Photography.

After the high from last weeks victory in the Scottish Youth Cup settled in the AUFA under 19's rank and file, this week saw an uncharacteristic lull in performance as they slipped up against Dumbarton.
At a cold and blustery Prestwick Academy, three early goals for the visitors tied the match up before Ayr could get out of first gear. Although the Ayr side were still trying to play their high quality style of passing football, they were undone by route one football for all three of the opening goals with the wind playing its part in the long ball style of play that Dumbarton had employed thus far in the match.
Ayr were creating plenty of chances but had failed to finish in the final third as they have done so easily thus far this season. Darren Baird, Roddy Paterson and Dale Moore all had opportunities to score with pops at goal but had been unfortunate not to open the home sides account.
Then, with a minute to go before half time, Ayr's Dale Moore suffered a bad foot injury that saw him leave the field in agony with the injury looking a bad one that will hopefully only be superficial.
The match was mostly scrappy up to the 45 minute mark with the home side being unable to force the hand of Dumbarton by breaking down their defensive lines and only one minute into the second half, Dumbarton scored another before Ayr could get into their stride of the second half.
Roddy Paterson was trying his best up front to break into the goal area and on the 68th minute got his just rewards after some excellent play down the left saw a rebounded effort land right at the feet of the Ayr striker who fired into the top left hand corner of the goal to give his side some hope that they could salvage the match.
The more the match continued, the more Ayr's Fisher, McIntyre, Crawford and Kelly forced their way into the game with some nice inter passing displays being on show. One of these moves resulted in Kelly playing the ball perfectly into the path of Paterson who pass the ball past the keeper but it was too late to add any more to change the outcome of the match.
A bit more luck in front of goal might have changed the result but Ayr finished strongly which the coaching staff must be pleased about after losing three goals so early in the match.
The 17s were also in action on Sunday at Prestwick Academy and they also looked lethargic against a struggling East Fife side who raised their game to try and down the high flying unbeaten Ayr side.
Despite many opportunities to take the lead and retain their 100% win record, the match ended scoreless with the main talking points being a suspected broken wrist for one of the East Fife players and Ayr losing a player to a red card decision.
The 17s players may have been tired thanks to a busy week for some of their players after a few of them being called up to the Ayr United Reserve side midweek and also playing a friendly on Friday night against Motherwell.
With that in mind, the AUFA coaches were happy to leave the match unbeaten after playing the second half with only the ten players. Both the 19's and 17's now face the long trip to Elgin next week.
The AUFA Holiday Programme had great success last week with three days of coaching being held at the Pro Soccer Complex in Ayr. The AUFA also have their Term Time Programmes in place from October through to December which gives children a long term plan from the Academy's professional coaching staff over that period. Please check the website www.aufa.org.uk for further details.
