The 17's ended the season with a comfortable 2-1 away win to Partick Thistle.
Although United enjoyed most of the possesion and chances in the first half it looked
like an end of season game. Keeper Kinniburgh was called into action in 10 mins when
he had a great fingertip save onto the crossbar. In 33 mins Thistle took the lead
with a great free kick from the edge of the area flying past Kinniburgh to the left.
Ayr continued to be the ones posing more of a threat with Ian Aitken and Scott Aitken
going close.
Ayr started the second half strongly and looking more like their old selves, and
lifting the pace of the game by a couple of notches and it was no surprise when a
Marlow header from a Hutchinson corner made it 1-1. Ayr continued to control an
dominate the second half with Ian Aitken and Adam Forsyth squandering good
opportunties.
With the game seemingly heading towards a draw the 17's never say die attitude
remained and were deservedly rewarded in the 87 minute with a Marlow through being
flicked back from Hawksahw, in Messi like way, into the path of Scott Aitken who
fired home from six yards to give United the deserved win.
Head Coach, Davy Adams stated "First half we were not ourselves but the application
was there, second half we looked very good, we moved the ball quicker, closed down
quicker, this result is typical of the boys characters all season. They never give
up and fought for each other. Every member of this season's squad should be proud
of what we achieved and they have been a pleasure to work with."
