15s v east fife

15's take the Long Road to Leven

Ayr 15's took the long road to Leven and put in a top notch performance against a dogged East Fife team that refused to lie down and made Ayr work hard for their goals.

Ayr started brightly and took an early lead when Ryan Nisbet broke through on the right and crossed for Steven McCarrison who finished well. Aiden Keegan then hit the post from long range after an excellent run forward from full back. Nisbet had a chance soon after but his shot squirmed wide. Ross Campbell was next to come close as Ayr piled on the pressure when he hit the woodwork from a Wardrope corner. Ayr's pressure eventually paid off when the excellent Shaun Vance was in the right spot to tap home another Wardrope corner.

The second period was a closely fought encounter as East Fife fought back. Jason Fillipi added to Ayr's tally when he finished well from an acute angle. James Hart was called into action soon when he saved well from an East Fife free kick. McCarrison came close after a good run from Anderson but he stabbed the ball straight at the keeper. East Fife pulled a goal back soon after when the Ayr defence stood their ground convinced that their man was off-side, the ref allowed play to continue and the forward ran through to finish well. This seemed to galvanise East Fife and James Hart did well to keep them out when he saved well from another one on one chance.

Ayr came out fired up for the third period and rattled in a further five goals without reply. Ayr played some sparkling one touch football in the period as they totally outplayed East Fife. Nisbett scored his first of the game after Vance saw a header cleared off the line with Nizzy fastest to react. Nizzy then scored his second minutes later when he broke through and cracked a left footer which sailed into the top corner. It was all Ayr now and McCarrison was unlucky to see a shot cleared off the line. Mick Ahern then scored the pick of the goals when he shimmied his way past four defenders before finishing well. Nizzy and Wardrope both came close before Ayr extended their lead with a fine team goal, A Wardrope back flick released Ahern who played Nisbet in who completed his hat trick by rounding the keeper and tapping in. Jason Fillipi rounded of the scoring after cutting in from the right and slid the ball under the keeper.

All in all an excellent performance on a difficult surface. Again no let downs, a great effort and a terrific eight goals to round off a good days work.
